What smells like citrus heaven, is packed with sugar, and makes you think of spring?
It’s a Key Lime Pie … Scrub Bar!
- What I used
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil – Get it here
1/2 cup grated soap – Such as this
yellow soap coloring (optional)
lemon or lime essential oil – Get it here or here
This recipe makes about 8 sugar scrub bars (amount may vary depending on your mold).
If you like this DIY then don’t forget to put a pin on it!
How To make your own Key Lime Pie inspired Sugar Scrub Bars:
Melt half a cup of grated soap with 1/4 cup of coconut oil. You can do this in a double boiler or in the microwave. For the microwave option: heat the mixture on low in 10 second intervals. Stir well between each go.
Add 6 drops of lemon or lime essential oil to the melted mixture. You can add more or less drops depending on your preference. You can also use any other essential oil you like.
At this point I also added 1 drop of yellow soap coloring. This only works if your soap is clear or white. You can definitely leave this step out.
Now that the mixture has had some time to cool go ahead and add 1 cup of sugar. The mixture will start to thicken quickly.
Fill your molds with the mixture pressing it down firmly.
Set aside to cool. If you want to speed up the cooling proces you can cover the molds and put them in the fridge.
Once they look like little slices of pie they are ready to use!
I use 1 cube per shower. They are the perfect serving to cover my entire body. Ideal to fight those winter chicken bumps on my arms and get my legs ready for spring!

I just made a similar recipe that called for 1/2 cup soap, 1/4 cup shea butter & 1/2 cup cup jojoba oil with 2 cups sugar and they came out way too hard! Wondering if I should have used just one cup of sugar? Did yours come out solid but “soft” to use?

Hi Francesca, I would try using more soap compared to the coconut oil (maybe 1/8 cup of coconut oil and 3/4 cup soap). I haven't tried this myself but it's worth the try!
