What fizzes, melts and smells of vanilla and cream? A birthday cake bath bomb melt of course!
To make every bath a celebration I added bath bomb ingredients to these bath melt truffles for a slight fizz in the water. And as an added bonus I’ve found that the fizzing helps spread out the oils in the bath water even better.
To make them smell like a birthday treat I added some vanilla extract to these bath melt treats. And the sprinkles are just the icing on the “cake”.
How To Make Your Own Bath Melts
Ingredients I used:
6 tbsp Shea butter
3 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp jojoba oil
2 tbsp baking soda
1 tbsp citric acid
1 tbsp corn starch
3-5 tbsp cake sprinkles
1 tsp. vanilla extract
This bath bomb recipe makes 8 to 10 bath bomb melts. I would make them about half the size as the bath truffles in the pictures. I’ve noticed that’s more than enough for the perfect bath time experience!
1. Melt the Shea butter
I melted my Shea butter in the microwave. This is definitely the easiest (ok, laziest) way to melt butters. But it works just as well. Melt on a low setting and turn off the microwave as soon as the butter looks completely liquid. This way you prevent overheating the butter.
Or go old school and melt the Shea butter in a double boiler.
2. Add the oils
Once the Shea butter had completely liquefied I added 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil. You can swap the jojoba oil for whatever oil you like. Olive oil for example.
Note: the fact that coconut oil is solid at room temperature is important for this bath recipe. If it’s hot where you live, keep these bath bomb melts in the fridge.
At this point I also added 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. It truly makes the bah bomb melts smell like birthday cake!
3. Let it cool
Now that all of the butter and oils are combined the mixture has to form a buttery consistency again.
The first time I made these I added the citric acid right away, thinking the oil and butter mixture would be thick enough. Obviously I ended up with a fizz party in the bowl!
The second time I placed my bowl of goo in the fridge to help speed up the cooling process.
4. Add the dry ingredients
Once the mixture looked like a soft butter, I added the bath bomb ingredients. I added 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of citric acid and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. With a spoon I mixed all of the ingredients together until well combined.
5. Start rolling
With a teaspoon I scooped out a bit of the mixture. Then I rolled it between the palms of my hands to form a tiny ball. On a flat plate I poured out all of the cake sprinkles. Next I rolled the truffles in the sprinkles.
People with very sensitive skin I would recommend wearing gloves to roll the bath bomb melts.
I made mine the size of small walnuts, but I only use half a bath bomb melt most of the time. The moisturizing goodiness you get from half is plentiful. Next time I make these I will only make them half this size. Because more bath bomb melts = more bath fun!
Drop one in your bath and watch it sink. Once it hits the bottom it starts to fizz. Watch the tiny oily bubbles as they appear at the surface spreading the oils in your bath water.
Once it’s melted spread out the oils in the water with your hands. This way you get all of the benefits of the bath bomb melt, from the back of your neck to the tips of your toes.

So I made these last night and tried one. Didn't really fizz but the moisturizing was great!

Hi Lolly, you can use arrowroot powder or just leave it out. Hope this helps!
