Father’s day is vastly approaching and that’s the perfect excuse to get crafty. Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a homemade gift. And this hair wax is a product he can actually use and enjoy!
There’s something magical about sharing something you’ve created. I remember drawing my dad’s face on a giant white tshirt in fourth grade. I thought I had drawn a perfect replica and I was beaming when I handed him my gift.
I can’t say I have ever seen him wear the shirt and I can’t blame him. The idea of wearing your own face on your stomach is absurd to say the least. But I remember the smile he had when I handed him my round-shaped interpretation of his face. And it was an awesome moment.
In hindsight a gift like this hair pommade probably would have made more sense. Let the kids draw a cute label for the jar and his heart will melt!
What I used:
2 tbsp. beeswax
- 2 tbsp. Shea butter
- 4 tbsp. EV olive oil
- 1 heaping tsp. arrowroot powder or constarch
- Your (his) favorite Essential oils
Melt the beeswax in a double boiler. When almost all the wax has melted, add the Shea butter. When your wax and butter have melted together add the extra virgin olive oil.
When all the ingredients have melted and your mixture looks like a clear yellow liquid, you can take it off the heat.
Add your essential oil(s). I used 6 drops of lavender essential oil because apparently that’s the most manly scent I own. But you can butch up your wax by using patchouli or cedarwood essential oil.
Add 1 heaping teaspoon of cornstarch or arrowroot powder. This will make the wax less sticky. Stir it all together until the powder dissolves. Pour the mixture in a cute container (I like to use glass jars) and let it cool down.
Give clear instructions to use a pea size amount.
