REVIEW | Anti-aging serum (by a twenty-something)

So, a while ago I read a disturbing article about skin aging. It wasn’t the talk about knee deep wrinkles or fading beauty that troubled me. It was the fact that apparently I should be incorporating anti-aging products in my skin care routine. Like, yesterday. Apparently the key to looking young is to start when you still do.

Ever since that gloomy day I’ve been sneaking anti-aging oils into my skincare routine.

But there’s more than rose hip seed oil or avocado oil to keep you looking young. There are other players on the field. And they are equally natural, even if they don’t sound like it. Like Hyaluronic acid for example.

What the H- is Hyaluronic acid?

It might sound scary, but it’s actually naturally present in the body. It has the ability to retain water, making it an excellent wrinkle eraser. It literally ‘fills’ the wrinkles with moisture, making the skin look smooth and consequently young.

That’s enough to get this Makeup Dummy excited! The Hyaluronic Acid Serum I tried is from OZ Naturals. A US based Organic beauty brand that sells their products exclusively on Amazon. This serum contains 5 % of hyaluronic acid.

REVIEW Hyaluronic Acid Serum from OZ Naturals - Does It Work?

Right away I notice there’s no full ingredient list on their Amazon page. Only the key ingredients are mentioned. For the allergic among us that might be a deal breaker. But I’m not afraid to live on the edge, so I decided to hit ‘send’.

The ingredients are written on the packaging luckily. And they look good! They don’t contain any alcohol, parabens or sulfates. The key ingredients are green tea, vitamin e, vitamin c and, of course, hyaluronic acid.

The product comes in a dropper bottle which I like very very much. The consistency is a little ticker than I thought, but very easy to apply. The instructions say to apply it before your moisturizer on clean skin. I expected a greasy feel, but it actually skins into my skin right away! It actually reminds me of my favorite DIY serum: Aloe Vera gel. And that’s no surprise, since it is the main ingredient. I can see this working for all skin types really, as long as you pair it with a moisturizer that works for you.

So … does it work?

I realized a little too late that you actually need signs of skin aging to tell a difference. But I can definitely see this working. My skin feels more plump and moisturized, and those frown wrinkles on my forehead seem to be a lot less present.

There’s one hick-up though. Since hyaluronic acid makes your skin look plump by retaining moisture, my guess is it’s only temporary. So in conclusion: hyaluronic acid is a great quick fix, but it won’t make your wrinkles disappear over time. A personal note to my future self: Use a serum with hyaluronic acid in the morning and a long term anti-aging cream at night!

Pros:

  • Sinks into your skin right away
  • Good for all skin types
  • Makes your skin look plump and healthy

Cons:

  • There’s no full ingredient list on their website
  • The effect is temporary (but there nonetheless!)

The verdict:

A definite rebuy. When I’m in my thirties.
