The holidays are in sight, but unfortunately not all of us are going to spend their summer laying on a beach sipping Mai Tais… But there’s no reason why we can’t recreate that relaxing summer vibe at home! Coconut, lime and peppermint come together in this delicious Mojito body scrub. Close your eyes and you’ll think you’re in the Caribbean in no time.
As I was making my first Mojito of the season, I looked at the ingredients in front of me. It kind of looked like the mess I make when I make my own body scrub. Sugar, lime and peppermint are not only a delicious combo in party beverages. They also make a great scrub for your skin!
That’s why I present to you: my DIY Virgin Mojito Body Scrub.
(Scroll down for the short printable version of this recipe.)
How To Make a Mojito Body Scrub
What I used:
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons coconut oil – like this
- 3 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 teaspoon (organic) lime zest – optional
- 1 drop of peppermint oil – like this

Let’s get started!
Put 1 cup of sugar in a bowl.
Add about 4 tablespoons of coconut oil. I just use coconut oil at room temperature. For me that means solidified coconut oil, no matter what the season is. If you’re lucky to live in a warm climate, you can use it liquefied or put it in the fridge first. Mix your oil and sugar until well combined. You can add more or less coconut oil if you want to, to get the consistency you like.
If you’re allergic to coconut oil, don’t have it in your house right now or just want to use a different oil, you can replace it with another plant-based oil. You can choose any other carrier oil you like. I personally really like grapeseed oil for body scrubs, as this oil is very lightweight and easily sinks into your skin.
Add about 3 tablespoons of lime juice to the scrub. Mix it all together with a spoon.
This part is optional. I added 1 teaspoon of lime zest to give my scrub some pretty green specs. The zest also brings out the lime scent even more! Stir it all together until the zest is evenly distributed over your scrub.
Because the lime juice and lime zest in this delicious mojito body scrub are fresh, water soluble ingredients, this body scrub will have a limited shelf life.
If you want to prolong the shelf life of your scrub, leave out the lime juice and lime zest and replace it with 1 drop of lime or lemon essential oil. Also keep all water out of the container!
Use clean, dry hands or a separate spoon to scoop some of the scrub out before each shower and keep an eye out for any signs of spoilage.
Add a drop of peppermint essential oil (and your lemon or lime essential oil if you choose to use it) and you have all the ingredients for your own virgin mojito body scrub! You can add more drops to ‘taste’.
Keep in mind when using essential oils that they are very concentrated, so a little goes a long way. This is especially the case for peppermint oil. It’s a great cooling and refreshing essential oil, but can also be very overpowering. Especially if you have sensitive skin.
Lime and lemon essential oil can also cause sensitivity to sunlight, so make sure to rinse well after you use this scrub. Read the instructions that come with the packaging of your essential oil.
Stir all the ingredients together until they are well combined. Screw the lid on your jar and store covered in the fridge for a longer shelf life.
How To Use Your Virgin Mojito Body Scrub
Apply on damp skin and use circular motions to massage and buff away any dead skin cells. Rinse thoroughly.
Keep in mind that oils can turn your bath or shower in a slippery slope. Be careful getting in and out of your shower or bath tub and clean it for the person that comes after you!
Enjoy!
