Spoiler alert!! This may become a very popular Christmas gift these coming holidays.
Bath bombs are incredibly easy to make and a lot cheaper when you do! Drop this cute bear in your bath tub and let the scent of vanilla and cocoa warm you up. Butter and oils leave your skin supple and soft!
This DIY is inspired by Lush Butterball Bath bombs. They don’t use cornstarch or oil, but these secret ingredients keep your bath bombs from fizzing before they should. Which they will do when made by untrained hands, like mine.
What you’ll need for 2 bears:
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup citric acid
- 1/4 cup cornstarch – I used arrowroot powder
- 1 tbsp. oil
- 2 teaspoons cocoa butter chunks
Optional:
- 2 teaspoons cocoa powder for color
- spray bottle with witch hazel or water
- 10 drops of essential oil – I used vanilla and ylang ylang
Put all your dry ingredients together in a glass bowl.
Slowly add 1 tablespoon of oil, drop by drop. Mix all ingredients well with a spoon between each drop.
Now it’s time to add your essential oils. I dropped 5 of vanilla and 5 of ylang-ylang in there. Mix well between each drop to keep it from fizzing.
I also added 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder per bear to give them a nice brown color.
Take a bit of the mixture in your hand and squeeze. It should clump together. If it doesn’t you can spray it with some (blossom) water. Be careful though, several of my batches started fizzing when I did this. It still gives me nightmares. I’ve found oil alone worked fine for me.
Fill up your mold 1 clump at a time. Press the mixture down firmly between each handful. I let mine sit in the mold overnight and they fell right out the next morning.
Now go fill up the bath tub!
Teddy bear hugs!
