DIY Acne-busting, Balancing ‘Good Night’ Serum

No more sleepless beauty rest with this DIY acne-busting serum!

Let me tell you about the day I first used Aloe Vera gel: I bought a bottle of Aloe Vera Gel, used it on my face, and never stopped loving it ever again.

I used it right around the same time my skin decided to go rogue on me. I figured there could be no harm in using an all-natural product on my face. And boy (girl), was I right.

I only knew it as a remedy for sunburn, and I knew it worked by calming and moisturizing the skin. Apparently it does a whole lot more than that: Aloe Vera Gel reduces the sight of pores, keeps your face matte and balances oily skin.

A few weeks ago, I decided to make an improved version of my favourite serum, and I’m loving the result!

What you need:

  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Your skin’s favourite essential oil(s)

1. Prep your tools

If you’re using a used up serum container, push the pump mechanism all the way down again. Clean it out real, real good. I like to use this, because with every pump you get the exact right amount of gel.

2. Squeeze in your Aloe Vera Gel

Ah, Aloe Vera.  It quenches your skin’s thirst, and at the same time it keeps it nice and balanced.

3. Add your special Ingredients

I added 2 drops of lavender essential oil to 1 oz of aloe vera gel. Make sure to mix the essential oil really well with the aloe vera gel.

I don’t recommend adding more than 3 drops of essential to 1 oz of aloe vera gel. Always check the packaging or instructions that come with your essential oil for contraindications, guidelines for safe use and dilution suggestions. Essential oils can be very potent, so make sure you use them with care!

This blend of aloe vera gel and essential oils has a limited shelf life. Make sure to use store-bought, preserved aloe vera gel for a longer shelf life. Keep this mixture in the fridge and use up within a week.

Another lovely acne-fighting essential oil is Tea Tree. I use this combination in my DIY zit zapper gel. It works great for oily, acne-prone skin, but Lavender just smells better than Tea Tree. It’s like France on your face.

Lavender is also known to calm and relax everyone who smells it, so this makes the perfect night time moisturizer. I use it after I cleansed my face, right before I go to bed.

Sweet dreams!

Ina
