Pinterest experiment: DIY two ingredient lip balm

There is one item that I can’t leave the door without. Well, besides my cell phone, drivers license, credit card and some cash in my pocket.

And that is lip balm.

I’ve been hooked on the Burt’s Bees one ever since I first tried it. There is just something about all natural ingredients that makes things great.

The lovely world that is Pinterest is scattered with DIY lip balm recipes. And they only use all natural, simple ingredients. So I decided to make my own!

I decided to start off with something easy, like this two ingredient tinted lip balm.

DIY Lip balm

What you’ll need for one lip balm:

– 2 teaspoons of grated beeswax

– 2 teaspoons of coconut oil

– Optional: some kind of pigment for prettiness

1. Melt the beeswax in a double boiler.

2. Add in the coconut oil and let it melt.

3. Take your double boiler off the heat and add in your pigment.

You’ll need to use quit a lot if you want it to show on your lips. So start saving up on broken eyeshadows and left over lipsticks!
I used the lipstick that was left in the tube. It gives a faint hint of color to my lips.

I heard that zinc oxide (aka diaper rash cream) helps to make your lipstick more opaque, but I haven’t been brave enough to try that yet!

Stir your concoction well and pour it into your container. Let it sit for 30 minutes in the fridge or until it has completely solidified.
