A year ago I never thought I would say this, but there are 2 spices I just can’t imagine living without. And that’s turmeric and ginger.
There’s always a pot of fresh ginger tea cooking on my stove. It’s an amazing anti-inflammatory herb and can help with nausea and even arthritis.
Turmeric is yet another amazing anti-inflammatory spice.
When I first heard about this power duo hot drink I knew I had to try it. I’ve now made my own sugar free, vegan golden milk version and I love it.
It’s the perfect warming drink to curl up with on the couch.
The black pepper in this recipe is optional, but it does take this milk to a whole other level. Black pepper helps your body absorb all of the wonderful benefits of turmeric so much better. It also adds an extra kickto the recipe.
The cinnamon and vanilla add a sweet touch to the milk. You can add additional sweetner to taste like maple syrup or honey. But as a sweet tooth myself I find this recipe doesn’t need it at all!
When I saw these cute little fresh turmeric pieces at the farmers market I knew I had to try a fresh version of this golden milk as well. It won’t color the milk the same bright orangey yellow color as the version with the dried spices. But at the same time you’re not left with all those gritty spices at the bottom of the pan.
I love using this milk as a base for my overnight oats. Just add a teaspoon of peanut butter, some almond slivers and a handful of blueberries. Delicious!
You can also use it to substitute the milk in your coffee for an extra anti-inflammatory kick!
